History of Drainage Problems

To the long term residents of Oxnard Shores, flooding of the streets during heavy rain or high tides is not new. Pictures of residents riding kayaks on Mandalay Beach Road are common.  With the changing nature of the beach some problems got smaller, no more kayak rides, while the covering of the drainage pipes has created the danger of major flooding.

In 2016 an effort was made by the MSCA to address the problem. However, with the demise of the MSCA, high turnover rate of Public Works officials, and the cost ($35,000.000) of a major public works project, nothing has changed.  The following PowerPoint presentation, although done in 2016, is still applicable.
